Celebrating Polish Heritage Days 2021

May 2021 Meetup

Organised for the 5th time this year, Polish Heritage Days (PHD) aim to promote Polish culture and heritage of past generations, the Polish contribution to the cultural, economic and social life of the United Kingdom and to emphasise the positive role that the Polish community plays.

This year the theme for PHD is around reinforcing the values of community purpose and social solidarity during the pandemic. During this time our monthly meetups moved from Storyhouse in Chester to an online space making sure our members  continue to meet, explore their heritage, practise Polish skills, share sources of information and most importantly, keep their spirits up during the lockdown.

My father was in the Polish Air Force and, as I am interested in my cultural heritage and have family near Warsaw, I am learning Polish with Ewa. Ewa’s meet-ups give me the chance to practise Polish and to connect with interesting people.

I was brought up on the Polish camp in Penley but over the years I find that I struggle to remember certain Polish words and since joining Ewa's Meetup I have learned new words which will improve my communication with fellow Poles when I hopefully attend the opening of the Siberian Museum at Bialystok, this September.
